RBI Named Champions for TerraFund Cohort 3 to restore land in Rutsiro district
Resilient Builders Initiative (RBI) has been selected as a champion organization for TerraFund Cohort 3, leading ecosystem restoration efforts across 400 hectares in Rutsiro District. The project, co-implemented with GLR and RCCDN (as Lead), focuses on community-led agroforestry restoration in Mushonyi and Boneza Sectors in Rutsiro district.
Funded by TerraFund through the Vumbuzi Impact Africa (VIA) Foundation in collaboration between World Resources Institute, Realize Impact, Africa Trees, and One Tree Planted. The project will plant 169,000 agroforestry and fruit trees. These efforts aim to restore degraded landscapes, improve soil fertility, reduce erosion, protect water resources, and promote sustainable land management.
Beyond ecological impact, the project will directly benefit over 574 households by providing sustainable sources of timber, honey, fodder, and crop shade—strengthening climate resilience, boosting household incomes, and improving nutrition.
Complementary livelihood initiatives include beekeeping associations, community savings groups, and environmental clubs.
The project is scheduled to run until March 2032, ensuring long-term sustainability and measurable outcomes for both people and the environment.
