RBI at Carbon Market Africa Summit 2026 in Kigali

Kigali, Rwanda, 13-15 October 2026 – Resilient Builders Initiative (RBI) took part in the Carbon Market Africa Summit 2026 (CMAS26), held in Kigali from 13 to 15 October 2026. The team presented its flagship Article 6 carbon project, Climate-Smart Rice Agriculture in Rwanda (2026-2036), to investors, pre-financiers and carbon buyers looking for high-integrity credits from Africa.
The project will cover 7,000 hectares of rice marshlands across nine districts: Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Huye, Gisagara, Ruhango, Nyanza, Muhanga and Kamonyi. It uses Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), a water-saving rice cultivation method that reduces methane emissions. IoT sensors provide real-time water monitoring for measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), so that emission reductions can be independently verified.
Project at a glance
- Expected impact of about 718,000 tCO2e avoided over 10 years
- Rice yield increases of around 21%
- 2,500 farmers trained, 50% of them women
- A 10-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI), signed on 30 September 2026
- Alignment with Rwanda’s fifth Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation (PSTA5) and its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)
The project is also ready for Article 6 cooperation. RBI has secured letters of intent and support from Rwanda’s Environment Management Authority (REMA) and Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA), under the bilateral agreement on carbon credit cooperation between Rwanda and Singapore.
At the summit, RBI’s team held meetings and shared the project design with many partners and prospective buyers, including BeZero Carbon, Anew Climate and DibCoop, among others. The discussions covered high-integrity carbon finance, additionality and MRV.
“As a team building climate solutions for smallholder farmers, the summit was an opportunity to connect, learn and share our vision,” said the RBI team. “The lessons learned are invaluable. We thank all the partners and innovators we met and look forward to building Africa’s carbon future together.”
RBI is now moving from intent to implementation and continues to welcome investors, pre-financiers and carbon buyers interested in community-impact credits from Rwanda. To get in touch, contact [add RBI email / website contact].
